Sailors make up the ship’s crew, under the authority of the Captain. For the purposes of this Title, the term “seafarer” covers officers, who exercise functions of responsibility and management on board the ship, and operational staff.
All seafarers registered in a C.E.M.A.C. member state may be taken on board a ship flying the flag of any member state, provided they meet the professional qualifications required for the position they are applying for on board.
Seafarers are affiliated to the general social security scheme for sickness, old-age and unemployment benefits, family allowances and industrial accidents.
