
The following professions are within the scope of maritime transport profession in Cameroon:
- Sea Carrier
- Charterer
- Freighter
The above maritime transport professions in Cameroon are defined as follows:
- Sea Carrier: legal entity by which or on whose behalf a contract for the carriage of goods by sea or river is concluded with a shipper.
- Charterer: legal person at whose disposal a vessel is placed in whole or in part for the carriage of goods or persons.
- Freighter: shipowner who places his ship(s) or the loading cell/space at the disposal of the charterer and who, in return, receives the freight (ship’s rent).
The exercise of one of the above professions is subject to approval following the mandatory opinion of the approval commission.
Approval to operate as a sea carrier implies approval to engage in chartering activities.
The extension of the aforesaid approval to the para-maritime professions may be carried out at the request of the maritime carrier who undertakes to respect the additional conditions required for the exercise of the aforesaid professions.
Approval to operate as an ocean carrier is subject to the following conditions:
a. The organization applying for approval must be incorporated as a Société Anonyme or a Société en Commandite par Actions.
b. The minimum share capital is fixed at 200,000,000Fcfa.
c. The capital structure must show the presence of Cameroonian interests in accordance with the provisions of the Investment Code.
